CARNIFIED
It is one of the most inspiring Brazilian Death Metal bands. They mix melodic and aggressive sound, as well as lyrics that deal with a private universe called Askardem. Surprised everyone with his chilling single Nocturna which features the voice of Sarah Jezebel Deva and a music video inspired by the classic Horror movies.
Formed in 1994, with a conceptual theme, its lyrics tell stories of a world called Askardem, inhabited by Gods who envy the human form. In the same year, the band released the Demo Tape Putrid Development with two tracks: Slowly I Die and Inquisition. At the time, Alex Oliveira commanded the vocals, Vicente Azevêdo was on drums, Eduardo Araújo on bass and Leonardo Pinheiro on guitar.
In 1996, with another guitar player, José Felipe Sá, Leonardo Pinheiro leaves the band and was replaced by Thony D'Assys. Eduardo Araújo leaves the band and Alex Oliveira takes over the voice and bass. Vicente Azevêdo remains on drums. Then, new Demo Tape The Carnification is released with three tracks: The Carnification, Carnal Despair and Internal Suffering.
In 1997, the song Northern Winds from the Eternal Search Valley was recorded to featuring in the compilation The Winds of a New Millenium #2 by the Brazilian Label Demise Records. This event marks the entry of the guitar player Marcos Franco in the band, replacing Thony D'Assys.
In 1998. the drummer Vicente was the only official member remaining in the band. He recruits Serafim Vila to the lead vocals and keyboard, Saulo Andrade also to play keyboards and André Sancho to play bass and sing melodic vocals. José Felipe Sá and Marcos Franco are still in the band and Marcos assumes the backing vocals too. As a sextet, Carnified conquered its space in the national underground scene releasing the EP O Primeiro Elo, becoming part of the “Golden Age of Brazilian Death Metal”.
The band kept its underground space with the 2001 release of the Debut Album Where the Gods Bleed with 8 tracks. Three members leave the band before the recordings: Marcos Franco (guitar and vocals), José Felipe (guitar), André Sancho (bass and vocals) and are replaced by Ricardo Sanct (guitar), Rafael Pires (guitar) and Ricardo Sobrinho (bass). With the entry of Gabriel Mattos, in 2003, replacing Ricardo Sanct. This formation remained until 2005, when Carnified decided to stop.
In 2020, after a 15-year hiatus, the band resumed activities and released Prelude to Askardem... The Lost Tapes (1994-96) – Compilation. A remastered album featuring the first two Carnified Demo Tapes and bonus tracks from live performances from the time. It was from there that Vicente Azevêdo and Gabriel Mattos invited Marcos Franco (guitar), who played on the EP O Primeiro Elo, to reactivate the band. The three invite Dan Loureiro to be the frontman, taking over the vocals and bass. With the departure of Gabriel Mattos the band decides to stay in Power Trio format.
Together they released the single Nocturna on May 28, 2021, produced by Marcos Franco (Revolusomonline.com). The song rescues traditional elements of Carnified 90s essence with a more up-to-date sound and features the renowned singer Sarah Jezebel Deva (former Cradle of Filth, Emperor, The Kovenant, Therion, Hecate Enthroned Mortis, among others). "We wouldn't go back if it weren't for doing something with real meaning", says Vicente Azevêdo, founding member of the band and idealizer of the private world in which all the lyrics are based.
In addition to the unprecedented music, the band released the first official music video for Nocturna, on October 14, 2021, at 7 pm. The video clipe was released when the Moon, symbol of the Goddess Nocturna, could be clearly seen in the Brazilian skies. The guitar player Marcos Franco is the current music producer at Carnified and was the director of the music video that was inspired by classic horror films. The director reports that “everything worked as planned” in the music video and, by chance, on the night of the recording, the phenomenon of the blood moon (supermoon), symbol of the Night Goddess, occurred.
In the middle of 2022, Carnified started the production of a new EP at Revolusom Studio and now as Solar Guitars artists.
In November 2022 the trio released "Carnage For The Gods". These EP takes fans to Askardem, the conceptual universe created by the band. With lyrics that present ritualistic and dark scenarios, CARNIFIED presents songs that make a parallel between chromatic and heavy elements, combined with the beautiful melodies and dark riffs of black metal.
In following month the band released their first lyric video for the song "In Darkness" which is part of the E.P. "Carnage For The Gods".
Great news are yet to come, stay tuned.
